Text Links

Tinderbox Icon

This describes links from text within a note to something else:

The text selected forms the 'anchor' in the originating note and is colored according to the colors defined in the Preferences Text pane's Colored text links setting.

For the currently open text window, any text (and web) link anchors can be highlighted by pressing the Cmd+Opt keys - a box is temporarily drawn around any anchor text and removed when the keys are released.

If text is added or removed within the original anchor the anchor expands or contracts accordingly. If all anchor text (but not that either side of it) is deleted the link will remain but have no visible anchor though it may still be accessed for editing via the note's Browse Links dialog.

If the anchor is at the end of a line or paragraph, typing more text may extend the anchor when this is not required. In such circumstances, press Opt+spacebar. The closes the anchor and adds a space after the anchor. If a space is not required immediately following the anchor, after adding the Opt+Spacebar add the desired character, then left arrow key and backspace (delete) key to remove the space. The anchor will now stop in the middle of a word or just before punctuation.

A less usual but supported use of a text link is for the link target to be a text selection in another note.
